It is fact that the group called the Church of Scientology has instigated, literally, thousands of lawsuits. Many appear to hold little merit, but still result in expense for the defendant, sometimes called a victim. In fact, some call scientology “the most litigious church in history”, a charge that, to date, has not been successfully disputed.
I wish to avoid that expense.
For that reason, I state that all references contained within are used in accordance with the “Fair Use” clause of US copyright law, which “allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders, such as use for scholarship or review.”
To quote the US Supreme Court, “[A] reviewer may fairly cite largely from the original work, if his design be really and truly to use the passages for the purposes of fair and reasonable criticism. On the other hand, it is as clear, that if he thus cites the most important parts of the work, with a view, not to criticize, but to supersede the use of the original work, and substitute the review for it, such a use will be deemed in law a piracy”
It is the intent of this site, then, to encourage criticism in a legal way and to carefully avoid grounds for a scientology lawsuit- not because I’m doing anything illegal, but because I am critical.
